What is Germolene Wound Care Cream?
Germolene Wound Care Cream is a treatment that is suitable to be used for treating minor cuts, abrasions, scratches, burns, bites, and stings on the skin. The active ingredient of this cream is chlorhexidine dihydrochloride which is an antiseptic that helps to prevent infection. Using this cream will also soften the skin as well as soothe irritation.
What can cause a skin infection?
A skin infection can occur when the skin has a wound or cut in it, which opens up the risk of infection. An infection can be caused by:
- Bacteria
- Viruses
- Fungi
- Parasites
The risk of infection if further increased if you are diabetic or have poor circulation in the body. This is also the case if you have a weakened immune system, from conditions such as HIV or AIDS.
Who is this Germolene cream suitable for?
This cream is suitable to be used by adults and children, including the elderly. It should not be used by anyone who is allergic to the ingredients contained in the cream. How should Germolene Wound Care Cream be used?
Before using for the first, ensure that the tube seal has not been broken. Wash the affected skin with warm water, but no soap. Apply the cream as needed for relief. Any dressing can be applied as well if you feel that it is necessary. Do not use the cream after the expiry date that is on the packaging. Store in a cool place below 25°C.
Are there any side effects?
Like with many types of medication, there is a chance of side effects. Potential side effects when using this cream include:
- Difficulty breathing
- Dizziness
- Skin irritation
- A rash
- Itching
- Burning sensation in the skin
